Compete in the MCI

The MCI comprises a number of different levels from Young Horse classes up to Grand Prix. To qualify, each combination must be a member of the MCI GB and must achieve a minimum of three scores plus one score at the relevant freestyle.

The scores will be put into a league table for final selection at the MCI European Final. These scores can be obtained at the same venue but must be on different dates.

There are 10 tests of classical dressage and 5 Freestyle to Music tests, which are listed below. Whips and callers are allowed in all qualifiers in the UK.

General Rules
  • Young horse tests are to be ridden in rising trot, all other tests are to be ridden sitting trot.
  • Malaga and Evora are NOT qualifiers for the final, they are practice tests.
  • The MALAGA test is for horses of 6 years old and over and first time riders to commence in dressage competitions.
  • EVORA is a transition between SEVILLA and LISBOA to allow competitors to progress with collection of the horse more gradually.
